The Bonaire Culinary Team 2015 is now complete and in full training for their participation at the Taste of the Caribbean competition which will be taking place in Miami next month. Team manager Floris van Loo from Rum Runners Restaurant is working with professional chefs and bartender from several BONHATA and the Bonaire Restaurant Association (BRA) members: Senior Chefs Miguel
“Poppy” Saragoza and Channethon Jansen. Junior Chef is experienced team member Giovannie Veld and pastry chef is Junior Janga who has also been to this competition before.
The bartender joining the team is Jay Frans, winner of the Bonaire bartender competition 2015 who also joined the team last year. Another junior chef travelling with the team to show support the team and participate in an individual element is Ronald “Jojo” Gosepa. Giovannie and Ronald won gold in 2014 during the Caribbean Dueling Challenge for junior chefs.
The Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition for professional chefs and bartenders is organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) of which the Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA) is an active member. The chefs had their first presentation for a small group of food lovers last Sunday and served an impressive three course lunch. Coming Sunday, May 17 this
culinary team is organizing a fundraiser dinner at It Rains Fishes.
Tickets are available at $ 50 for a three course dinner with wine and in addition to that, cocktails prepared by Jay Frans, winner of the Bonaire bartender competition 2015. Cocktails are served at 6 pm, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm. Reservations required.
