Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA) is proud of the Bonaire Culinary Team performance during the Taste of the Caribbean competition for professional chefs and bartenders in Miami. The Taste of the Caribbean is organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) of which the Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA) is an active member.
The Bonaire Culinary Team brought home several prizes again and most importantly they won Gold as National Team of the Year for the first time ever. The team brought a total of 6 medals in different categories during The Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition held June 12-14 2015. Teams get the chance to showcase their talents during many competition elements, both as a team and on an individual basis before judges competing for gold with the assistance of team manager Floris van Loo from Rum Runners Restaurant. Miguel Saragoza had the best beef dish and also became the overall winner in the beef/seafood competition, Junior chef, Giovannie Veld received a silver medal in the Junior Chef competition, Channetton Jansen won a silver medal in the chef of the year competition where he prepared a wonderful dish to amaze the judges. Bartender Jay Frans fascinated the judges with his cocktails with a Bonairean touch of Cadushy Liquor which got him a bronze medal. Also receiving bronze medals were Pastry Chef Junior Janga and Ronald Gosepa who competed in the Cheesecake competition.
