The Bonaire Culinary Team is training full power for the Taste of the Caribbean! Taste of the Caribbean is a yearly culinary competition for professional chefs and bartenders organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA). “Since 1993, the best chefs and culinary teams unite to learn and demonstrate their professional skills. They provide the general public a scintillating exhibition of the most savory and delectable treats of the Caribbean”, according to the CHTA.
The Bonaire Culinary Team of 2017
Last year in 2016, the Bonaire Culinary Team was very successful and this year the team is training hard to win gold. The team of Bonaire will participate in “The Taste of the Caribbean” in Miami under guidance of team manager Floris van Loo from Rum Runners. The culinary team consists of professional chefs from Bonaire:
– senior chef Miguel Saragoza
– chef Sherundly Bernabela
– junior chef Dustin Libiee
– pastry chef Maria Mastrangelo
– and last but not least bartender Kelvin Ventura.
For Dustin Libiee it is the first year he is on the team.
Participating in this competition brings the members of the team a lot of learning opportunities. They get the knowledge of the latest trends and participating workshops held around the competition will inspire them. The team will get the opportunity to meet a lot of peers from the Caribbean. This will expand the network of these team members. Also Bonaire has a big advantage! Namely, the team members are bringing a lot of experience, new techniques and positive energy to improve their working skills back to Bonaire.
Fundraising dinner for the Culinary Team
The Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA), Bonaire Restaurant Association (BRA) and the culinary team are organizing fundraisers through April and May. As the chefs take over the kitchen of generous restaurants, they want us to see and taste their creativity in preparation for the actual competition. With these fundraisers they hope to raise the funds needed to travel to Miami this June and win for Bonaire in the Taste of the Caribbean 2017!
Please find below the invitations for the cook outs and fundraisers. Locations change, though price stays the same. During every fundraiser/cook out, the chefs prepare dinner proportions. Details about every fundraiser will also be communicated through social media.
