The Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA) is proud of the Bonaire Culinary Team 2016 as they made a strong impression during their first training & fundraising dinner on Sunday March 20th. Coming June the team, under guidance of team manager Floris van Loo will travel to Miami to participate in the yearly Taste of the Caribbean competition, a culinary competition for professional chefs and bartenders organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA).
Through the active membership and with support by BONHATA, the team is currently training every week to get ready for this prestigious event. It Rains Fishes was again very generous as they allowed a restaurant and kitchen take over by the Culinary Team which consists of Chefs Miguel Saragoza, Channethon Jansen, Maria Mastrangelo, Max Maartense and Sherundly Bernabela. The evening started with cocktail creations by bartender candidates Leonard Rojas Escalante and Ryan Jansen who will be competing in the local bartender competition on April 10 at Coco Beach. The winner of that competition will join the Culinary Team in June. The bartender candidates Ryan and Leonard are, together with the chefs working on creative recipes with bold flavors using local ingredients. The chefs impressed the dinner guests with an appetizer with shrimps and sole, a main course with lamb, chicken and vegetable lasagna and the desert with a delicious trio of sweets, chocolate and fruit.
InselAir is again on board as they sponsor the airfare for the entire team.
