The Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA) will push for a one-fee tax system to replace the current system of various tourist taxes and fees. Bonaire visitors now are subjected to a system of charges and fees ranging from tourist tax (room tax) and car rental tax to different types of nature fees. BONHATA proposes a new way of collecting these funds.
By combining the tourist tax and car rental tax and possibly also including the STINAPA nature fee a visitor only has to pay a single charge before or on arrival. This new system will make things more transparent for the visitors and at the same time it will reduce collection and administration costs and eliminate a lot of uncollected funds. This will result in a much needed increase in available funds for both promotion of Bonaire and the protection of its nature.
As the official Tourism Association BONHATA has been a strategic partner for the
government for 35 years and looks forward to working closely with relevant partners to accomplish this step towards a more financially sustainable economic future.
BONHATA has been on the forefront of the tourism industry for almost 35 years and has been recognized by the National & Island Government and the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) as the Official Hotel & Tourism Association of Bonaire with more than 90 local and international companies in its membership, comprising of resorts, hotels, apartments, diving and water sports businesses, car rentals, restaurants/dining and other tourism-related companies on- and off-island.
